Astrid Castro: Executive Director
Astrid has a degree in sociology with an emphasis in adoption. For the past twenty plus years she has traveled the country to lead youth groups, present workshops on transracial parenting, talking with children about adoption and various other workshops focusing on adoption. Prior to creating Adoption Mosaic, Astrid worked in both the private and public sectors of various adoption organizations such the Oregon Post Adoption Resource Center (ORPARC), Holt International, Rocky Mountain Adoption Exchange to name just a few.
Astrid has co-authored Adoption in the Movies, which takes the reader on a guided tour of 27 movies and documentaries that are ‘dripping with adoption’ and asks questions that encourage the viewer to engage in ongoing dialogue and discussion. Astrid has also developed an innovative, evidence-based, 27-minute training DVD titled, Adoptive Parent Training: Developing Communication Skills that demonstrates how adoptive parents can communicate openly and honestly with family, friends and especially children. Astrid is on the board of directors of the North American Council on Adoptable Children and has authored many articles on the subject of adoption including being a chapter contributor in the book Parents As Adoptees.
Astrid she has taken personal life experiences like the circumstances around her adoption, being a woman of color and growing up in a white family and community, and uses these experiences as fuel to propel her professionally in her efforts to help others. Astrid is particularly aware of the benefits post-adoption services can have on an individual and his/her family. Her life-long interest in adoption is rooted in her own adoption at the age of four from Colombia (along with her older sister). As a former professional snowboarder, Astrid loves to spend her spare time on the slopes with her daughter.
Libby Bell: Office Manager
Libby Bell comes to Adoption Mosaic with a wealth of personal and professional experience. For the past 10 years she had been a busy stay-at-home mom raising 3 girls. In addition to her busy home life she has been very involved volunteering with her middle daughter’s softball team in an administrative roll. Libby also has an extensive back ground working with children in various daycare programs. In her spare time Libby and her family volunteer monthly at Dinner and a Movie, a Portland based non-profit.
Shelley Dalmau: CIC, CRM; Board President
Shelley is a workers compensation insurance agent with a special focus on data analytics for risk management. She has been a volunteer at Adoption Mosaic since 2011 in service on the Programs Committee. Shelley is a first/birth parent who relinquished in 2000. She organizes a private gathering of area birth parents as well as facilitates our annual Birth Parent Panel. Andrea O’Donnell: MS, FNP, RN–Nurse Practitioner, Oregon Health & Science Univ.; Board Vice- Chair
Andrea brings to our Board her perspective as a medical professional and researcher in reproductive health and family planning. She has worked in women’s health in a variety of settings and chairs our Run Mama Run event celebrating all mothers. Andrea first connected with Adoption Mosaic after the adoption of her son in 2008, when she attended the Transracial Parenting Series and began volunteering soon after. Andrea lives in NE Portland with her husband and two young children.
Ari Montgomery: Child Support Case Manager; Board Secretary
Ari came from Calcutta, India at 3 months old to a lesbian couple in a closed transracial adoption. Out of high school she put herself through college as an actor/model doing various print/commercial/television work. Post college she is continuing her acting while working for the State of Oregon’s Department of Justice- Division of Child Support as a case manager. Next year she is planning on going back to get her Masters in Social Work.
Kerwin Carambot: BBA–Finance Director, The Good; Board Treasurer
Chair of the Board of Directors, Kerwin has been a volunteer with Adoption Mosaic since 2008. Currently pursuing his CPA credential at Portland State University, he helps steer our Finance Committee. Kerwin is a twin and has a niece adopted from within the extended Carambot family.
Melanie Blesio: MS – Senior Administration; Board Member at Large
Melanie has a graduate degree in conflict resolution and is currently working in administration with a law firm. She has experience working with various non-profits in marketing, public relations, film and admin work. She and her husband are in the process of adopting from both Moldova and Ethiopia. To prepare for their upcoming adoptions they attended the Adoption Readiness Class II and later became a volunteer with the organization. Melanie is really looking forward to connecting her children to the Adoption Mosaic Community.
Jen has her MA in Conflict Resolution and works as a Project Manager for IBM. When she’s not busy at work, she enjoys traveling, hiking and snowshoeing, watching movies, and attending beer festivals. Jen worked for a variety of not for profits and community organizations before joining the corporate world in 2012. She currently volunteers as an organizational development consultant to nonprofits, teaching conflict resolution skills, runs a mentor program, and is passionate about a variety of social causes. As an adoptee, she is excited to serve on the Adoption Mosaic Board!
Marly is a transracial adoptee from Colombia currently in reunion with her First Mother and adult brothers. She studied theatre and performing arts at Southern Oregon University and acted professionally for several years. Currently she works at a cute little library doing Readers’ Advisory, collection development and running book groups.
Jessica is a clinical social worker experienced in community-based health organizations, psychiatric care, non-profit leadership and grassroots activism. Her professional specialties include perinatal mental health, adoption, and cultural considerations in global mental health. She is active in the Adoption Mosaic community as an adoptee activist and writer, editing our organization’s publication The Adoption Constellation. firstname.lastname@example.org
